Skipworth Reserve near Jamieson in Victoria is a bird watchers paradise. Fairy Wrens, King Parrots, Bower Birds, Wattle Birds, Black Cockatoos, Magpies, Kookaburras, Wonga Pigeons, Currawongs, Tree Hoppers.
Big fat Wonga Pigeons scour the grass for tidbits. Fairy Wrens hop about on matchstick thin legs. Eagle eyed kookaburras perch on head high branches waiting for the slightest movement.
Our friends brought along parrot food but the King Parrots were much smarter than that. When we werenāt watching they were into our happy hour nibbles and flitting off to the trees to nibble daintily on rice crackers and potato chips.
They’re colorful company aren’t they? And in such a gorgeous area.

We had a whole week surrounded by beautiful birds tucked in this gorgeous camp ground. No phone reception and walking distance from an iconic pub. It has to be one of my favourite places.

Our wrens are tiny and brown, very nondescript but I love them. We have a pair in our garden.

And I’ll bet they’re full of personality too. We live rather urban these days but we have a friendly little wattle bird who chats away on the fence.
