Now called London Arch, the rock formation on Victoria’s Shipwreck Coast near Port Campbell was once known as London Bridge because of its similarity to London’s famous bridge. That is until an afternoon in 1990 when the arch connecting it to the mainland crashed into the sea leaving two surprised tourists stranded and awaiting a helicopter airlift to safety. Now that really would bring adventure tourism to a new level.
Right place, wrong time…

I think maybe they were in the right place at the right time… they could have been caught in the middle. 🙂

Was this the one where the two tourists trapped were rumbled for having an affair or is that just urban myth?!

Probably an urban myth but funny all the same.

Eventually somewhere that we have been Down Under! Remember visiting and wondering what the whole ‘bridge’ thing was all about until I read the plaque.

The bridge that isn’t and the 12 apostles that are down to single figures. All hail the power of the sea.

You forgot to mention that the bloke was there with his girlfriend that got stranded when the bridge fell, which pleased his wife when she watched the evening news with views from the helicopter of both of them stranded on top of the rock.
