Day 13 Tuesday 8/6/21 Narrabri to Casino, 7-20 overcast It’s a blessing to have a warm night but today is another ‘goodbye day’ as VeeWee and Nic head north to Boomi and the Qld border. We’ll be heading east to … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 13 – Gambling on Casino

Capricorn Dancers, Day 9 – You can’t knock back a bargain

Day 9 Friday 4/6/21 Darlington Point to Lake Cargelligo, grey cold wet 11 Cotton, rice, citrus, wine, the farms become more abundant as we approach Griffith. Handily, both Bunnings (hardware) and Aldi are on the Kidman and it’s easy to find parking. Veewee finds a caravan step and we stock up on groceries. As we’re keen to buy wine we skirt the CBD and head straight to De Bortoli Wines where we are quickly relieved of $200 or so by the super saleswoman, the one who attended to our needs last November when we came through here with The Prado’s. … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 9 – You can’t knock back a bargain

Capricorn Dancers, Day 6 – Learning more about Tocumwal

Day 6 Tuesday 1/6/21 Tocumwal, cloudy cold A cold day sees the quarantining camp very quiet. As Woody says ‘it’s not as though we can go to the movies’ (Tocumwal is far too small for that). Though VeeWee is glued to Netflix. As the day improves we get out for walks around town and find a plaque in honour of a young Tocumwal boy who was killed in Gallipoli in World War One. It’s amazing what you find when you have the time to look around. There is much debate as to whether the Melbourne lockdown will be extended. We … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 6 – Learning more about Tocumwal

Capricorn Dancers, Day 5 – Award Winning Pasties

Day 5 Monday 31/5/21 Tocumwal, icy to warm again 0-16 A crispy frosty morning and we’re up early to drive the 20kms to Finley for Woody’s blood test* only to be told that blood tests are by appointment only. We console ourselves by buying pasties from the award-winning Finley Bakery which has just been awarded ‘Best pastie in Oz’. We quickly retreat to base camp and wait in the van for the morning to warm up before reheating and eating our pasties in the lunchtime sun. The afternoon is spent reading, sketching the house across the road and walks along … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 5 – Award Winning Pasties

Capricorn Dancers, Day 4 – The Blowhole

Day 4 Sunday 30/5/21 Tocumwal, icy then warm 0-16 After a pleasant morning sitting in the sun chatting and reading we take a short drive to the local tourist attraction. One that we’ve never heard of. The Blowhole is a strange funnel like 15 foot deep water filled hole in a flat granite outcrop. Sacred to the Ulupna and Bangaragn people it seems to be connected to the Murray River, several kilometres away, as its water level rises as that in the Murray lowers. We scratch our heads wondering at the mystery of it. Dinner is pork fillets in a … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 4 – The Blowhole
