Day 12 Thursday 28/11/2024 Rochester to Home We’re greeted with a bright sunny morning, no rain, and no humidity. We say our goodbyes and hit the road south through the Heathcote vineyards. There are several large dead kangaroos on the road. From Heathcote we take the Redesdale Road crossing the old iron bridge again. At Kyneton we stop to stretch our legs and to Woody’s pleasure finally visit the Grist Bakery but not before visiting the public toilets opposite. And I must say that there’s a lot to be said for using our own toilet on the caravan, because…I push … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – Slip Sliding Away
Day 11 Wednesday 27/11/2024 Rochester, 17 – 28 with 15mm of rain, wet and humid We had another hot night. It began raining in the wee hours and once again I’m up in a flash closing the roof hatches. With … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – The Red Bridge and spilt milk
Day 10 Tuesday 26/11/2024 Rochester, warm 17 – 29 It’s another pleasant morning for wandering about and chatting. Oh, how we miss that when it rains. Reg and The Clippie drive into Echuca to see what’s going on, while the rest of us drive down to Colbinabbin ostensibly to see the silos. With the ‘Bridesmaid’ in the back and far too much chatter going on we miss our turn off and end up doing a longish tour of the district, but it doesn’t matter the wheat looks superb and the sheep are cute. By the time we arrive in Colbo … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – Colbo
Day 9 Monday 25/11/2024 Rochester, rain 18 – 23 Still raining. Woody needs a blood test, so with Elle in the back we zip into Echuca (the ‘big smoke’ around here) for a coffee and some shopping. At least, being a Monday it’s easy to get a park in this popular tourist town. We spend the afternoon chatting and watching ‘Reg’ and ‘The Clippie’ decorating their rig with all things that light up. However, the blow-up reindeer are a bit of a fizzer as a mere hint of sunshine causes them to burst. They lie squished on the lawn like … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – It’s Rain Dear
Day 8 Sunday 24/11/2024 Rochester 19 – 24 Wet Once again, we sleep soundly through a hot night and the rain begins around 7:00am. Nothing ferocious, just gentle soaking rain to soften the earth. The rest of the crew wander off to the local museum and return raving about how interesting it is. Because it will be closing at 4:00 this afternoon and won’t open again until Thursday we get our skates on and dash over there. Situated in the rooms of the old railway station building, one side is dedicated to local born champion of endurance cycling Sir Hubert … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – Sporting Greats
Day 7 Saturday 23/11/2024 Rochester, 37 Regardless of the heat, we slept like tops last night. It’s already 29 degrees at breakfast time and as I write this a tiny spider is crawling up my neck. I can hear the cooing of pigeons under the road bridge. Woody takes an early morning walk and as always, he is seduced by the local butcher, yes he’s waving a big bag of crumbed lamb cutlets. The heat builds and a cool salad is warm before it is devoured. To escape the heat, Toothless, Mrs. Doubtfire and Elle take a drive into Echuca. … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – Have they got Tourette’s?
Day 6 Friday 22/11/2024 Rochester, 15 – 36 Hot It was a pleasantly warm night with most of the windows and even the door open. It’s already 26 degrees at breakfast. The town fire siren goes off, there must be … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – Keeping our cool
Day 5 Thursday 21/11/2024 Ayson’s to Rochester, 11 – 33 On the way to the loo this morning I’m greeted with a perky “Hullo!” from Jack the cockie. For the first time this season we had a roof hatch open … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – The far reaches of politics
Day 4 Wednesday 20/11/2024 Moora to Ayson’s Reserve, Elmore, 9 – hot We have a slow start as we aren’t in any hurry. It’s calm here and we are camped in a sea of yellow grass. Barely a kilometre down … Continue reading Somewhere to Rochester – “Poo Jack”
