Venus Bay
Venus Bay, SA is all blue and white. A blue bay under a bright blue sky and stark white limestone upon which the holiday houses are built. The fishing must be good as there are dozens of boat trailers on … Continue reading Venus Bay

Situated on the western coast of the Eyre Peninsula, Locks Well is two kilometres down a good bitumen road. There is a large paved parking bay for motorhomes and caravans with a breathtaking view of the Southern Ocean. The road … Continue reading Locks Well
Coffin Bay is a fisherman’s Haven. Nice homes and shacks line the oyster filled bay. A kindly local on the CB directs us to the Shellar Door of Pure Coffin Bay Oysters. We put a couple of dozen large ones … Continue reading The World is our Oyster
With a picnic lunch packed we head south from Port Lincoln to the Lincoln National Park just across the bay. Horse Rock Camp Ground has a caravan perfectly positioned on the shore. Below Stamford Hill there is an interesting beach … Continue reading Lincoln National Park
If you are a regular follower of this blog you may have realised that we like our food, a lot. Whilst on the road we’re always on the lookout for local delicacies to savour. Regional produce like new seasons walnuts in Autumn from the Victorian Ovens Valley, fresh oysters from Coffin Bay and of course Woody couldn’t live without his freshly roasted coffee. We once drove thousands of kilometres for the smoked meats at Kilkivan in Qld and we weren’t disappointed. It works both ways too, as we often travel north with a freezer full of dim sims for Woody’s … Continue reading Delicacies
If you’ve been following this blog for a while you’ve probably realised that we really enjoy our food and that Woody can’t survive without freshly roasted coffee. Winter 2016 We spend hours stocking up on supplies in Townsville. And searching for a coffee wholesaler, one of which has their home address listed on the website rather than the business address. We find ourselves driving up near vertical streets on the side of ritzy Castle Hill …with the van on the back. I can’t breathe for fear that we won’t be able to turn around or even go uphill if the … Continue reading Getting High on Coffee
Don’t tell Woody, but we recently chalked up 100,000kms of towing since we retired and bought our first caravan close to 6 years ago. What does that equate to? Well the earth is 40,075kms around at the equator so that makes it roughly two and half times around the earth. Woody usually does about two thirds of the driving and I do the rest and we argue quite a bit over whose turn it is to take the wheel. Our first van was a Viscount Pop Top. When we realised that we really liked this caper but wanted a bathroom … Continue reading Around the World
At Port Lincoln we scoot into the Information Centre and book a tour of The Fresh Fish Place. The Fresh Fish Place is a slick operation and we see and taste freshly shucked oysters and watch whiting being filleted. Afterwards … Continue reading The Seafood Coast
When one thinks of fishermen’s cottages one doesn’t think of modern waterfront homes with pleasure craft moored out front, but this is Port Lincoln, home to Australia’s largest commercial fishing fleet. Continue reading Fishermen’s Cottages
Woken by the sound of trawlers making their way out to sea I didn’t have to leave the caravan to catch the first light of sunrise. We really couldn’t complain about the view. Continue reading Sunrise Port Lincoln
