Winter 2014 After crossing the Hunter River by ferry from the perfectly situated Stockton Beach Holiday Park our day on foot in Newcastle is to be spent chasing our travelling needs. Newcastle is a hilly city and it throws up some interesting sights. Fuelled with fresh coffee we need a supermarket and the nearest is in Newcastle West, thanks to Google Maps we’re off along King Street and we spot an interesting looking hilly garden. Up the stairs we go. It is the old churchyard of the Christ Church Cathedral and each step bears the inscription from a long gone … Continue reading The Reverend David Campbell
August 2014 We’re in western Qld and neighbours at the back of the roadhouse are Melburnians desperate for a good coffee but too tight to pay $20 for a powered overnight site. So they lug their coffee machine over to the picnic table and plug into a free power point there. Such a hassle when the poor old roadhouse owners are struggling to make a buck out here anyway. Woody calls these types ‘Tight Arse Tuesdays’. Continue reading Just to Save a Buck

Port Douglas, Qld Winter 2014 About four vans down from us there is a caravan with a monstrous bra hanging from the clothes hoist. Clothes come and go, but the bra stays. I wonder if they’re using it as a satellite dish? Continue reading Dodgy Reception
Tuross Head on the New South Wales south coast is set on a high ridge with stunning views over the lakes, river mouth and sand spit. On the cliff top I chat to a local man who tells me that sometimes emus can be seen on the sand spit. Now that would be a sight to see. Continue reading Tuross Head
It’s a sunny winter’s day on the New South Wales coast but high up on the Great Diving Range at Dorrigo it’s a cold 13 degrees. We’re 750 metres above sea level and a poetical local chides my friend “Where’s … Continue reading Dorrigo Steam Railway Museum
Winter 2014 Even with the tide out the harbour is pretty and there are islands in the distance. The town itself is very hilly and the streets wide, two or three times wider than any usual country street. Any spare … Continue reading Bowen, Qld
Living not far away we’ve driven past the signpost to Lang Lang beach a thousand times. Then one afternoon we ventured down just to see what was there…the sun was setting across Western Port, the water was as calm as … Continue reading Sunset on Lang Lang Beach
