Wallaman Falls is 50kms behind Ingham and the last 20kms is almost vertical, or is that just the ice box full of produce from Ingham weighing us down. The falls are at the top of the Great Dividing Range. We … Continue reading Wallaman Falls
There is nothing more mournful than the cry of a curlew on a warm tropical night.Late in the evening or just before first light a blood curdling scream will cut the air and raise you bolt upright from your bed. Then you realise that a woman or a child is not in mortal danger, it’s the bloody curlew. They take a lot of getting used to. Continue reading The Bloody Curlews
Our friend Mrs Elle Prado cracked us all up when she described how husband Mr El Prado had to shimmy out the van window when their door locked them both in the van at Streaky Bay in South Australia.A year later they roll into our park. In her zest to get a lovely sea breeze through the van Elle opens the fly door and suddenly it locks itself. This time it is Elle locked in. We arrive to find the park owner with screwdriver in hand, but to no avail. While they wait for a locksmith to arrive from Townsville, … Continue reading An Open Door Policy
“How good is your lens?” Says a man on the beach. I follow his gaze and there between the rocky reefs, sharks are feeding on a school of fish. I’ve been too busy shooting the sunrise to notice what is happening right in front of us. Continue reading Feeding Frenzy
Like so many inland towns there are artesian baths in Lightning Ridge. The locals call them ‘The Bores’. A wonderful 39 degrees and the silky soft mineralised water soothes out every ache and pain that this poor old body has. Continue reading Artesian Baths

Someone once said isn’t it funny how nothing is ever how you imagine it to be. That is so correct even today when we can ‘walk’ and ‘fly’ over our destination with Google Earth and still we get there and it looks similar but there is oh so much more.I expected Victoria River to be rough and rugged and barren. How pleasantly was I surprised when we visited in 2015. Beside the roadhouse there is a paddock of new mown hay. This is the first grass paddock that we’ve seen since south of Kalbarri. It’s funny the things that you … Continue reading Victoria River, NT
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie…. Located in far North Queensland or FNQ as it is known by the locals, Rollingstone beach is your quintessential tropical beach, swaying palms and a host of offshore islands that form part of the Great Barrier Reef region. We oohed and aahed as the sunset turned the sky all shades of pinks and lilacs then the moon rose gracefully from behind an island. A dozen people just stood on the beach totally gobsmacked. Continue reading Moon Rise Rollingstone
Copi Hollow is a small lake in the Menindee Lakes system on the Darling River. We got up before dawn to get an early start as we had a long drive ahead of us. The moon was setting over the lake behind us. Continue reading Moon Set Copi Hollow
