Who’s having a bad hair day?
The wrong end
Many years ago at a photography lecture a wildlife expert joked that if you want your subject to stay still then nail it’s feet down. Boy I could’ve used boxes of nails over the years especially when it comes to birds. And this little fella? Well he wasn’t going to turn around for an old duck with a camera. Breakfast Trout
Feb 2019, Skipworth Reserve, Jamieson, Vic I drop my breakfast to take a wander down to the river, just to enjoy the early morning sunlight on the bush and the smell of the air. In the shallows of a backwater a small trout, about the length of my hand, is also breakfasting. Continue reading Breakfast Trout
Wedge Tailed Eagle

Gang Gang Cockatoos
Feb 2019, Skipworth Reserve, Jamieson, Vic It’s always exciting to see an unusual bird and even better to get a chance to photograph them. I find Black Cockatoos elusive and always flying too high. They were near enough to distinguish their dark grey plumage and distinctive red heads but not close enough for a clear image. Continue reading Gang Gang Cockatoos

June 2018, Rollingstone, Qld The midges are winning. I’ve tried Bushmans, The Locals, long clothes and Elle’s pungent mixture of baby oil and Dettol. Elle’s mixture is the only one that does a half decent job of warding off the … Continue reading Of midges and tides and lazing in the tropics
Constant Companions
March 2015 The weather is warm and the shower was so refreshing, I reach for a nice fluffy towel and as I dry myself I realise that ants have nested in it overnight and now I’m being bitten from head to toe. Ouch, ouch, ouch! Continue reading Constant Companions
Walk with me
Lake King
Feb 2016, Rutherglen Caravan & Tourist Park, Rutherglen, Vic Plovers, herons, magpies and mudlarks. Corellas play in the trees, the lake shimmers and changes by the hour. A pelican spends his day perched on a branch. A mismatched family of domestic ducks swim about. There are purple moorhens and white faced coots and every evening the setting sun reflects pink across the water. Continue reading Lake King
