It’s a long way to the top, Day 2 – Now you see ’em

Day 2 Saturday June 7th 2014 Healesville (Badger Creek) The night was clear but nowhere near as cold as we had expected. It started to rain at about 6:00am. After breakfast we pile into two cars and set out for Warburton following CJ’s GPS. We soon find ourselves crossing the shoulder of Mt Donna Buang on a dirt road in thick fog. Obviously, it is not a popular road as we see only one other car. But to our joy three lyrebirds scurry across our path and the last one steps out and gives us a display of his tail … Continue reading It’s a long way to the top, Day 2 – Now you see ’em

It’s a long way to the top, Day 1

Prologue With the uncertainty of Covid times in this world many of us are either in lockdown or tentatively ‘peeping through the curtains’ and wondering whether it really is safe to venture out. At present we are waiting for our state Premier to announce (hopefully this morning) whether we can venture more than 25kms and actually leave Melbourne Having been free to roam New South Wales for four months, a few days ago we jumped in the car to go shopping in a favourite suburb and grab a bowl of pho only to suddenly realise that it was out of … Continue reading It’s a long way to the top, Day 1

Banned on the Run, Day 122 – Last drinks folks

Day 122 Saturday 10/10/20 Griffith to Finley, warm 23 Our vans are looking like they’ve been to the moon and back. Elle is wondering how to stow her roses while travelling and El Prado suggests standing them in the toilet. We were thinking about going south to the border to maybe sit on the river for a few days before heading home but now we realise that we will have entered the ‘border bubble’. What does that mean for us? As arranged over dinner last night we meet Bill at his winery. He shows us his impressive cellar dining room … Continue reading Banned on the Run, Day 122 – Last drinks folks

Banned on the Run, Day 120 – A Gourmet Food Trail

Day 120 Thursday 8/10/20 Coolamon to Griffith, Cool windy 18 We have a lot of rain overnight and the locals tell us that this will delay the canola harvest. I’m sure it will give the wheat a spurt along though. The damned ants have been driving us nuts these last few days and as I lift the coffee machine to pack it away for travelling I find that they’ve made a nice little nest on the bench. A nice warm dry spot in wet weather and they must have been ecstatic when I forgot to turn the machine off the … Continue reading Banned on the Run, Day 120 – A Gourmet Food Trail

Banned on the Run, Day 117 – Of Roasts & Rain

Day 117 Monday 5/10/20 Ariah Park to Coolamon, rain threatening 27 It’s El Prado’s birthday. Lying in bed after a hot night and contemplating the day ahead the above bed roof hatch is open. A little bird with a long spiny bill peeks in. That’s a nice way to greet the day. We have sheep and wheat to the horizon. The roadsides are flanked with gums and Murray pines. Cloud is building in the west. We’ve heard a lot about the caravan park at Coolamon and the price of $20 is enticing. There’s a mention on WikiCamps that they don’t … Continue reading Banned on the Run, Day 117 – Of Roasts & Rain
