It’s a long way to the top, Day 2 – Now you see ’em

Day 2 Saturday June 7th 2014 Healesville (Badger Creek)

The night was clear but nowhere near as cold as we had expected. It started to rain at about 6:00am. After breakfast we pile into two cars and set out for Warburton following CJ’s GPS. We soon find ourselves crossing the shoulder of Mt Donna Buang on a dirt road in thick fog. Obviously, it is not a popular road as we see only one other car. But to our joy three lyrebirds scurry across our path and the last one steps out and gives us a display of his tail feathers. Apart from dashing lyrebirds there are tall straight gums, tree ferns dripping with moisture and the occasional roadside waterfall.

Eventually we wind down into Warburton. It is a quaint arty town with some delightful antique shops, much to the delight of T & C. The mist clings to the hillsides and we have a coffee at the Riverview Cafe that as its name describes overlooks the Yarra River. There are paths on either side of the river and it is quite busy.

We return to camp on much better roads past picture book farms with emerald green paddocks. Someone brings out the Klop and we have a game on the lawn with TC being the outright champion.

What happened to the main highway? You can’t trust a GPS
