Capricorn Dancers, Day 7 – The 2nd Big Thing

Day 7 Wednesday 2/6/21 Tocumwal, 4-17 overcast then sunny periods It’s pleasant sitting in the sun. We walk to the butcher, chat to the parrot in the ‘olde shop now residence’ window, chat to all the locals who stop to … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 7 – The 2nd Big Thing

Capricorn Dancers, Day 6 – Learning more about Tocumwal

Day 6 Tuesday 1/6/21 Tocumwal, cloudy cold A cold day sees the quarantining camp very quiet. As Woody says ‘it’s not as though we can go to the movies’ (Tocumwal is far too small for that). Though VeeWee is glued to Netflix. As the day improves we get out for walks around town and find a plaque in honour of a young Tocumwal boy who was killed in Gallipoli in World War One. It’s amazing what you find when you have the time to look around. There is much debate as to whether the Melbourne lockdown will be extended. We … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 6 – Learning more about Tocumwal

Capricorn Dancers, Day 5 – Award Winning Pasties

Day 5 Monday 31/5/21 Tocumwal, icy to warm again 0-16 A crispy frosty morning and we’re up early to drive the 20kms to Finley for Woody’s blood test* only to be told that blood tests are by appointment only. We console ourselves by buying pasties from the award-winning Finley Bakery which has just been awarded ‘Best pastie in Oz’. We quickly retreat to base camp and wait in the van for the morning to warm up before reheating and eating our pasties in the lunchtime sun. The afternoon is spent reading, sketching the house across the road and walks along … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 5 – Award Winning Pasties

Capricorn Dancers, Day 2 – Settling in

Day 2 Friday 28/5/21 Tocumwal, sunny with a chill wind 6-15 A really, quiet night and it is so nice to snuggle back under the doona and listen to the birdsong. Midmorning after a lazy start we stroll the two blocks into town looking for a new step for VeeWee as she ran over hers with the motor home. Never a good move and it looks a little sick and bandaged. Town is busy and friendly the autumn leaves are still hanging on to wintry branches. Since we were last here there’s a new two storey building being built overlooking … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 2 – Settling in

Tocumwal Town Beach

July 2019, Tocumwal, NSW A delightful riverside freedom camp situated on a sandy bend of the Murray just behind and walking distance from the town. $10 per night per van gives you a water tap and clean toilets and traffic noise is slight. Courtesy buses are available for transport to the local pubs and clubs. Would we return? Definitely, as it’s an easy drive from Melbourne when heading north to the Newell Highway. And like so many Victorians we always like a spiritual fix of The Mighty Murray and especially in a town as charming as Tocumwal. The kangaroos are … Continue reading Tocumwal Town Beach
