Summer 2018 The Wooroonook Lakes are about 14kms west of Charlton and an oasis in the wheat belt. A long sloping stretch of sand allows for fairly level camping using ramps and there are two vans already in residence when … Continue reading Wooroonook Lakes
Wellington Beach
Wellington Beach, Nambucca Heads, NSW is flanked by the rocky breakwater and imposing Wellington Rock. After wild weather the beach is awash with driftwood and every day there is more. Piled up twigs, branches, palm fronds and tree trunks, their root systems scoured clean and smooth. Continue reading Wellington Beach

Do ye ken? Pardon? What? Eh? Got the gist? Understanding the lingo
When the recently deposed South Australian Premier referred to our Federal politicians as ‘knuckle draggers’ and an electricity generator as having ‘shat itself’ on television a few weeks ago, I thought it maybe worth a look at our own Australian version of English. The trusty gumboots came out from under the bed and were put to good use, but as we left I just tossed them in a big garbage bag and thought “I’ll deal with you later”. When we hurriedly set up camp down on the Gold Coast I tossed the bag in the shower. Come Sunday morning and in my birthday … Continue reading What’d you do on Sunday?
Colourful folk around here

The Midnight Oil house
Quite possibly one of the most photographed ruins in the country, the house that featured on the cover of Midnight Oil’s Diesel and Dust album sits in a paddock just outside of Burra, South Australia. One has to agree that it does have character. Continue reading The Midnight Oil house
