Red Dirt, Days 17 & 18 – Hellos and Goodbyes

Monday November 5th 2012 Corowa Oh blimey there was not a lot of sleep last night, it was hot and we were serenaded by Neil Diamond, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits and Queen until 2:00am, and the woman next door with … Continue reading Red Dirt, Days 17 & 18 – Hellos and Goodbyes

Red Dirt, Day 16 – The bikers arrive

Sunday November 4th 2012 Corowa Great excitement today as Woody’s brother Woody the Elder and his son arrive on their motorbikes after having ridden down from Thredbo where they have been attending a motorbike expo. As Woody the Elder has ridden all the way from the Gold Coast on his Suzuki 400cc scooter, we have been following their progress by phone since he left home. We have a day of catching up on all the news and watch the sunset with a Chicken and Rice Casserole that was hiding in the magical freezer. We farewell M, as he’ll be heading … Continue reading Red Dirt, Day 16 – The bikers arrive

Red Dirt, Day 15 – A beer and a punt

Saturday November 3rd 2012, Corowa We start the day with espresso coffees all round at our van (of course we brought the coffee machine), then walk into town. Being Melbourne Cup Weekend the boys head off to the Corowa Hotel (there are 5 pubs in town) for a beer and a bet. The girls do a spot of shopping and there are plenty of shops to explore. We have a lovely lunch on the motel lawns overlooking the river. Dinner is at the Old Empire Hotel which has done us proud in the past. We have an exceptionally good meal, … Continue reading Red Dirt, Day 15 – A beer and a punt

Red Dirt, Day 14 – A long weekend

Friday November 2nd 2012, Yarrawonga to Corowa It was a very cold night, but we awake to a beautiful sunny morning. Gee it’s washing day again, at least this park is quiet so the task is knocked over whilst we have breakfast. We top up the fuel and drive on to Corowa along the northern, NSW shore of the lake. This is our shortest drive, a mere 40kms, so we check into Ball Park Caravan Park at 10:00am. Ball Park is a very large council run park and although delightfully treed most of the ‘tenants’ have onsite vans, in fact … Continue reading Red Dirt, Day 14 – A long weekend

Red Dirt, Day 13 – Time to downsize?

Thursday November 1st 2012, Echuca to Yarrawonga It rains heavily during breakfast. Because we’re in a large town we venture out for a coffee, we find a place that advertises barista training, so we give them a try, sadly it is only passable. We stock up on supplies for the upcoming weekend in Corowa with our friends and family. We find a caravan repair place on the Melbourne Road and they fix the awning in a half hour. Echuca was a valuable pit stop. We’re back on the road at 1:15pm and it’s a pleasant drive through wheat fields and … Continue reading Red Dirt, Day 13 – Time to downsize?
