Burleigh Heads, Qld We have family on the Gold Coast and when there one of our favourite walks is through the Burleigh Heads National Park. A short 3km return walk takes you around the headland and through patches of rainforest between Burleigh Heads and Tallebudgera. There are stunning ocean views to Surfers Paradise in the north and Coolangatta in the south. In the rainforest the antics of the brush turkeys will keep you amused and water dragons can be spotted wandering about in the shade. High above you the steep grassy hillside is strewn with giant hexagonal basalt plugs. So … Continue reading Burleigh Heads National Park
June 2016, Clermont, Qld We’ve seen thousands of crazy letter boxes and the like but this takes the cake. Continue reading What to do with an old dozer
June 2018, Rollingstone, Qld The Rollingstone Pub is on the Bruce Highway. The pub is famous for the old fire engine parked out front which makes it something of a landmark on the Bruce. We partake of the $10 Tradie lunch. Elle tucks into a fine T bone and the rest of us choose rissoles, gravy and chips. How Queensland is that? Rissoles, gravy and chips. One day I’ll scrape up the courage to tackle Queensland’s legendary Crumbed Steak. Continue reading Rollingstone Pub

Jul 2017, Sunshine Coast, Qld Tewantin is agreeable to the eye with plenty of trees and people in a hurry. But then this is the town that drives the holiday resort town of Noosa Heads. Tewantin is the business end with solid old Queenslanders, wandering gardens. Accountants, lawyers and supermarkets. Noosa is the pretty face with luxury homes, sparkling white apartment blocks and hotels of gleaming glass, fronting a small but lovely stretch of sand contained by the National Park and the Noosa River. Dress shops and restaurants, canals and crowds. Something must feed this hungry monolith and it’s Tewantin. … Continue reading Noosa and Tewantin

Winter 2014, somewhere in the Gulf We’re heading south on the Burke Developmental Road towards Cloncurry. It’s the sort of morning that can only be described as magnificent and we have the road to ourselves.
