Day 36 Friday July 11th 2014 Port Douglas Woody catches a bus into Cairns to pick up the Jeep and $2400 later we have it back on the road. Surprisingly, the cost covered a major service as well as replacing the alternator. In fact, Bob had quoted us $1100 for the alternator and over $2000 for the alternator and installation. Day 35 Thursday July 10th 2014 Port Douglas What a joy it is to sit outside and have breakfast. The bush hens scratch around us, it is warm and birds are squawking. Pete and Di pack up and head off to Cape York with their entourage of two other vans. After they leave the management drag away a palm tree that Pete has felled in his efforts to create the perfect camp site. Heaven help the bush. Day 30 Saturday July 5th 2014 Port Douglas We have a delightfully lazy morning reading the Saturday papers before drifting down to Cairns. Cairns is about 70Kms to the south. Large birds called Orange Footed Bush Hens scratch around our camp. We have new neighbours in a large camper ute that is wider than the site that they are on. While we chat Pete starts hacking at the shrubbery, our pretty little dividing garden, and small palms are dug up and despatched to the rubbish bin so that more guy ropes can be pegged in. Hmmm. Day 29 Friday July 4th 2014 Port Douglas It rained overnight, not heavy but the plops from the palms were loud on the roof. It is still raining and the air is damp. By noon the rain has cleared and the world is drying out, rapidly. We assemble the fold up bikes and ride around the Port Road into town.
