Mulambin Mumblings – Rush Hour

Aug 2019, Mulambin, Capricorn Coast, Qld I pulled my shoulder again last night just trying to take my shorts off! I know, it makes an awful mind picture and of course another damned uncomfortable night. That’ll teach me for wandering around pubs in the dark. It’s 9:00am I’m feeling like death warmed up and Woody rushes into the van with an anxious look on his face. “I need to go to the loo!” he says “Well go.” “I can’t, it’s rush hour!” It seems 12 cubicles aren’t enough at peak hour. Mulambin Mumblings – Dave’s Cooking Classes

Aug 2019, Mulambin, Capricorn Coast, Qld Every night at Mulambin Dave from Gippsland pops into the camp kitchen to cook dinner on the BBQ. Tonight, he tells us he is cooking Bolognaise Sauce…on the barbie. That raises our eyebrows. As we chat Dave is chasing mince steak and onions around the hot plate with a spatula and when it’s cooked he tells us that his wife, whom he refers to as “The Racobite” so we assume that she must be a non-drinker, will add tomato puree to it. You learn something new every day in this caper.  At happy hour … Continue reading Mulambin Mumblings – Dave’s Cooking Classes

Mulambin Mumblings – Toothless and Butterless

Aug 2019, Mulambin, Capricorn Coast, Qld Toothless Johnno got his nickname when he broke a tooth off his denture plate a few years back, before he could finish his lunch a bird had flown off with it. The tooth not the whole plate. It seems that poor old Toothless is stalked by birds and swooped whenever they get the chance. The cheeky little buggers know him and pass the word around. So, we’re not surprised when Toothless Johnno butters his toast, turns away to get his egg and a blue faced honeyeater swoops down and starts eating the butter off … Continue reading Mulambin Mumblings – Toothless and Butterless

Mulambin Mumblings – Hotel California

Aug 2019, Mulambin, Capricorn Coast, Qld For some time now Woody has been saying that he’d like to spend winter in one place (and preferably not home) and this year after our failed trip to Darwin we thought FNQ* might be our objective. As we pressed on each stop became more enjoyable and we realised that we just needed to put our feet up. And rest. Then Elle noticed that our park was offering a late winter deal online. By further extending our stay and applying the new deal three weeks here in one of our favourite parks averages out … Continue reading Mulambin Mumblings – Hotel California

Mulambin Mumblings – Australia? You’re standing in it!

Aug 2019, Mulambin, Capricorn Coast, Qld With the Prado’s we go in search of Zilzie, it’s the next town to Emu Park and what a great name Zilzie is, wouldn’t you love to tell people that you live in Zilzie? However we manage to get ourselves a little lost. Woody jumps out of the car and asks a local, who’s washing his car,  where we can find Zilzie. The answer of course is “You’re standing in it!” Double or Nuthin’ & Shirley take our advice and visit Byfield. They return to say that they couldn’t find the Byfield National Park … Continue reading Mulambin Mumblings – Australia? You’re standing in it!

Mulambin Mumblings – Emu Park Market

Aug 2019, Emu Park, Capricorn Coast, Qld Emu Park farmer’s market is under the shade of the beach almond trees in a pretty park sandwiched between the caravan park and the beach. The location lends to the atmosphere. The beach almonds with their large red and green leaves, the colourful stalls and glimpses of glittering ocean. At last we find pineapple jam and Joyce the jam maker tells us that she simply cuts the pineapple, boils it, adds sugar and pectin and that’s it. Bloody lovely, we reckon. We also buy her passionfruit butter which turns out to be equally … Continue reading Mulambin Mumblings – Emu Park Market
