Staying in Mulambin on Queensland’s Capricorn Coast, we lazily drive the one kilometre to Causeway Lake for their famous fish & chips. The lake is sparkling in the sun and people are fishing from tinnies and kayaks. It is busy with people having picnics or just strolling. The old kiosk is a remnant from the ‘50’s, timber and fibro cement. Dr Mays Island

Dr Mays Island sits at the mouth of the Elliott River at Elliott Heads near Bundaberg, Qld. Once a part of the mainland what was Dr Mays farm eventually became isolated. It is a treat to watch the ebb and flow of the tide and the patterns that are created in the sand here. There is very little vegetation on the island, a palm, a prickly pear and a few other shrubs cling to this mere hummock. Ground cover plants grasp the crowns of the dunes. Silo Touring in Victoria

Our caravan club recently toured the Silo Trail in Western Victoria. Because of the distances involved it is wise to base yourself at the caravan park in Warracknabeal like we did or at the well-appointed RV Park in Brim. There is one more silo in this region at Patchewollock which we didn’t visit on this trip due to time constraints. Northern Silo Trail With excitement we share cars and set off on the ‘Northern Silo Trail’. Martindale Hall

In the Clare Valley of South Australia not far the small village of Mintaro, think appealing stone buildings, autumnal vineyards of gnarly vines, long lunches and complex rieslings, is this handsome Georgian style mansion. It was built in 1879 by a sheep farmer. A 21 year old sheep farmer, Edmund Bowman. For the movie buffs Martindale Hall featured in the movie ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ in 1976.
