After a rather pleasant Happy Hour with the neighbours Woody throws the empties in the recycle bin and I start preparing dinner. A few minutes later he is searching the camp for his favourite Karijini National Park stubby holder. Halfway through cooking dinner I find myself holding the torch while Woody climbs the ladder and leans into the dumper to extract said stubby holder. Oh dear, life is never dull on the road. Continue reading Karijini where are you?
Recognised as the first white settler in Sawtell on the New South Wales coast, the site of Walter Harvie’s hut is identified by a plaque in the caravan park. What a shame that they decided to put the dump point beside it! Continue reading Walter Harvie cedar cutter
Woody is rummaging around in the back of the Jeep. “I just reorganised it yesterday and now everything is in a different place, we must have been robbed, but I can’t find anything missing!” he says. We stare at the back of the car, the umbrella and hiking stick are within easy reach which is strange as they are normally behind the seat and rarely used. Come to think of it nothing is in logical order. We search the car for things of value, the GPS (who’d want her, she lies so often?), the small change (whoopee enough for a … Continue reading We’ve Been Robbed!..?
On our way to the Macksville Pub we call in at the Gumma Reserve a freedom camp on a branch of the Nambucca River in northern NSW. Each campsite has a fire pit and there are toilets. There is a … Continue reading Gumma Reserve
Camped in Rollingstone, Qld we had a shower of rain during the night. (Readers please note: a shower in tropical north Queensland seems to be the equivalent of Melbourne’s annual rainfall in a matter of ten short minutes). We raced outside to drop the clears on the annexe and by the time we’d finished unrolling and zipping the rain had almost stopped. All we could do was stand and laugh because I was in a T shirt and Woody in his undies and there we were soaked to the skin and dripping, just a couple of drowned old farts. Continue reading Wet T Shirts
Whilst meditating in the room of deep thought, I remembered that as a much younger person I thought that it would be rather good to produce a book on the dunnies of Australia. Since then I’ve seen many coffee table … Continue reading The Dunnies of Oz
According to the World Factbook, Australia has the sixth largest land mass on earth. That is a lot to explore without border crossings without the hassles of language or swapping to the ‘other’ side of the road. ‘Bland’ you may say, but oh there are so many cultural differences and more than just football codes. It’s a point to remember next time you surrender your veggies at a fruit fly check point. Continue reading There’s a Lot to Explore
We eat our fresh baked rolls (from Hearthfire Organic Bakery) stuffed with last night’s leftover lamb, in the sun at the Bellingen Showgrounds in the Coffs Coast hinterland. Now I’d classify this as a Caravanner’s Business Lunch as we’re actually checking out the condition of the showgrounds. With mown lawns, autumn leaves and nice clean amenities it ticks all the boxes. Continue reading A Caravanner’s Business Lunch
Elle & El bought a nice leg of lamb from the local butcher in Valla Beach and as we have a well equipped camp kitchen at this park they pop it in one of the large ovens. Part way through … Continue reading Lamb Leg a la Camp Kitchen
