Banned on the Run, Day 48 – In hot water

Day 48 Tuesday 28/7/20 Wooli As I make the bed I notice that the hot water fitting is still leaking. We ring Phil Winmill Caravans in Grafton and quickly decide to take the van into Grafton with us when we go in to see the audiologist. As we’re still eating breakfast it’s a mad dash to dress and stow and hitch the van up and be there in time. Grafton is about 50Kms away. Phil is a nice bloke, he fixes the connection in minutes while he tells us how much he loves fitting Chinese diesel heaters. He makes us … Continue reading Banned on the Run, Day 48 – In hot water

Banned on the Run, Day 47 – Ear, ear

Day 47 Monday 27/7/20 Wooli, windy There’s more water coming from the hot water pipe under the bed. What a bugger! We may not have river views but we’ve got the best sites in the park as the wind is now blowing hard across the river. After all the washing Mother Nature is now doing the drying. The boys manage to find sunny spots to read their morning papers and things get back to ‘normal’. What a bonus this week has been having free accommodation (1st week $42.00, 2nd week free). We book sites back at Evans Head for the … Continue reading Banned on the Run, Day 47 – Ear, ear

Banned on the Run, Day 45 – Huh? is for Hospital

Day 45 Saturday 25/7/20 Wooli, bloody wet 16 After a good night’s sleep Woody is much better but can barely hear with hearing aids. Around lunchtime we drive into Coffs Harbour, mask up and enter the Emergency Department. Our temperature is checked and we pass the necessary Covid questions. A man and his little girl enter. The nurse asks “Have you been to Melbourne or Sydney?” “No” he replies “and I’ve never even been to Melbourne.” “We’ve been to Grafton!” Says his daughter proudly. Woody is checked thoroughly for possible heart and stroke issues and the problem is suspected to … Continue reading Banned on the Run, Day 45 – Huh? is for Hospital

Banned on the Run, Day 44 – Rain of biblical proportions

Day 44 Friday 24/7/20 Wooli, wet 18 Rain of biblical proportions What looked like rain tracking to the north of us has arrived. It’s so difficult to predict the weather of unfamiliar regions, we flick from weather app to weather app. The showers are almost constant and though we’re on sandy sites the puddles grow. We all potter about indoors finishing books and dragging about in general. I ferret out the trusty gum boots. We decide to have our happy hour upstairs all warm and dry in the Top Deck camp kitchen lounge. We chat with a staff member who … Continue reading Banned on the Run, Day 44 – Rain of biblical proportions

Banned on the Run, Days 37 – 50, It looks like rain

July 2020, Wooli, NSW This caravan park has a fabulous water park for families. Sadly, due to Covid restrictions the huge waterslide and jumping pillow are closed but, there are several swimming pools and mini golf. With golf clubs and balls we set off for a quick round…an hour and a half later we complete the 18 holes with patience frayed. El Prado’s competitive streak has been tamed, VeeWee has given up keeping score and as per normal I come last. The winner is Woody with Elle a close second. We take the dog for a walk on the beach … Continue reading Banned on the Run, Days 37 – 50, It looks like rain

Banned on the Run, Days 37 – 50, Tuned into Masterchef

July 2020, Wooli, NSW We’re all pretty excited (except for VeeWee who thinks that we’re as mad as hatters) about the Masterchef final tonight. Elle has watched every episode. I send Elle a text kidding her that we must make the amazing ‘toffee apple’ dessert tomorrow and get an unexpected reply… They’ve lost signal for Channel Ten! No problems the four of us squeeze into our van glued to the TV watching the finish…only to find that it will be tomorrow night, we’ve been watching the Semi. Bugger!
