Home Hill RV Comfort Stop

The people of Home Hill in Queensland allow RV’s to park for free for 48 hours on the street parallel to the highway and right in the heart of town. Is it any wonder that this town can still support three pubs, there are 67 RV’s in for the night when we visit. On the Main Street there are two supermarkets and on our street a laundromat, the Information Centre and the new amenities block which provides toilets, hot showers, a camp kitchen and tables and chairs.  As we’re camped directly behind Jaycar electronics, Woody decides to buy a new aerial … Continue reading Home Hill RV Comfort Stop

Theresa Creek Dam

Twenty kilometres from Clermont in Central Queensland, the Theresa Creek Dam gives you a choice between the feel of being in the bush and that of a resort park. There is a general store that is run by the management that provides basic needs and light meals like Turkish toasties, burgers and fish & chips. The store is set in a garden and grassed area with playground facilities for children. It is an inviting spot for a morning coffee. There are sloping grassed sites close to the lakeshore with stunning views. Behind the store there is a flat well grassed area … Continue reading Theresa Creek Dam

Nindigully Pub

I’m sure all Queenslanders know of the Nindigully Pub. West of Goondiwindi, south of St George and not far from the New South Wales border Nindigully sits at the junction of the Carnarvon and Barwon highways and on the banks of the Moonie River. As far as iconic Aussie bush pubs go this one ticks all of the boxes.Built in 1864 on a well used stock route and river crossing there is now little else but the pub in what was once a Cobb & Co staging post. The long low pub has a wooden floored verandah and hitching rails … Continue reading Nindigully Pub

Emerald, Qld free camp

Emerald has beautiful Botanic Gardens lush green lawns and palm glades overlook the Nogoa River. Amidst all this beauty is a 24 hour free camp between the highway, the river and the Botanic Gardens. This gives us quite a giggle because the vans are parked between the road and railway bridges and it seems that the prime spot is right underneath the railway bridge. Heaven knows how anyone could get any sleep there. As well as that the main use of this line is for carrying cattle and the railway line in town is covered in pungent cow manure. I … Continue reading Emerald, Qld free camp

Newey Recreation Reserve, Cobar, NSW

We camp the night on the other side of town at the Newey Reservoir Reserve. There is a large sealed parking bay overlooking the reservoir. It is reedy, moody and filled with the chatter of a million birds. This is a wondrous free camp. Walking around the lake shore and on the lawns is a treat and campers sit watching the sky turn pink over the lake at sundown. Continue reading Newey Recreation Reserve, Cobar, NSW
