Day 39 Sunday 4/7/21 Tannum Sands, sunny 23 The sun is shining. We fling open the windows and the roof hatches, sweep off the rain and mud spatters. The birds are singing and the coughing neighbour’s useless husband is trying to pack up. We’re taking bets on how long he’ll take. We have refreshing walks on the beach. Day 37 Friday 2/7/21 Tannum Sands, more rain 23 This trip we’re learning a lot about precipitation. It starts raining again just after breakfast, thankfully it’s already a pleasant 20 degrees. Driving over to Boyne Island is a much quieter shopping experience than in Bundaberg. If Covid has taught us one thing it’s an appreciation of less crowded places. Day 34 Tuesday 29/6/21 Woodgate, sunny 23 It’s an easy drive of 54 kms into Bundaberg, the home of Bundaberg rum (Bundy) through forests and orchards of macadamias, mangoes and even chillies. It seems that most fruit and vegetables are grown here in abundance. After doing some shopping on Bourbong St it’s down to the riverside for a nice fish lunch at Grunske’s fish cafe. But, our plans are thwarted as it is Tuesday and they are closed on Tuesdays. Day 33 Monday 28/6/21 Woodgate, breezy sunny 22 A dry morning is gratefully welcomed. We turn right out of the park (this is a town of few streets) and follow the road to Walkers Point which is a small group of weekenders on the Burrum River. On the far shore we can see the town of Burrum Heads. A long way by road a short distance by boat. I read on the beach in the afternoon as the sand is sheltered from the breeze. Woody walks the town. Day 32 Sunday 27/6/21 Woodgate, 15 feels like a soggy sock Woody had no trouble falling asleep in the drumming rain. He just took out his hearing aids, sighed loudly and hit the mattress. I, on the other hand was comparing the evening to bedding down inside a drum at a rock concert and that falling rain had no rhythm. The only respite was to pull the bed clothes over my ears.
