We can’t camp at the Devils Marbles as I’m in plaster and recovering from a fall. But just around the bend from the Devils Marbles is the lesser known Wauchope Hotel. We pull in and hobble over for a huge Parma because it will save us from three legged cooking tonight. This is the first Parma* of the trip I think, wow that’s some kind of record 15,000kms without a Parma. The place is spotless, friendly and has a landscaped garden and pool. Gee and I thought that we were in the outback! They even give us a doggy bag. … Continue reading Wauchope Hotel, NT

We pack our bathers and drive 60kms north of Katherine to Edith Falls and what a pretty spot. We walk the kilometre up to the top where the climb gets a little bit difficult and we have a swim in the pool. It’s a real bucket list thing swimming in a waterfall fed pool in the Northern Territory. The walk down is much cooler in our wet togs. I am giving Woody a hard time about wearing sandals on a bush walk and as the track evens out I stop concentrating on my footing and WHACK I find myself on … Continue reading Lindsey Falls
We were based in Hervey Bay, Qld experiencing our first northern winter as grey nomads. There were two bucket list items that had to be ticked before we headed south again to freeze our extremities off. Whale Watching It is another perfectly clear day. We are picked up by the bus at 9:00am and board the Freedom 111 at the marina. Keith, Bill and Stacey are cheerful, professional and welcoming, telling us that we have the run of the boat whilst we are on board. The bay is, as it has been since we arrived here, perfectly flat. These are … Continue reading A Tale of Two Tours
Shelves or hangars? I’ve long since come to the conclusion that clothes travel better on shelves and for several reasons. It seems that often the wardrobes aren’t deep enough for hangars to fit without hanging on an angle. Wardrobes are often narrow so you may only be able to fit half a dozen hangars any way so the bulk of your clothing ends up riding around in a pile at the bottom of the wardrobe. Of course this then causes the hanging clothes to bunch up at the bottom thus destroying any advantage of hanging anyway. When hanging rails are … Continue reading Laundering on the Road
The boys cook breakfast in the camp kitchen and a long breakfast ensues. Gee we can talk and the discussion is all about toilets, heaven forbid. In the evening our mate M cooks the trout that she caught at Lake Eucumbene and once more the talk turns to toilets. People wonder why we joined a caravan club but I’ll bet they don’t know as much as we do about toilets! Thus I have it on good opinion, fuelled by a warm evening under the stars partaking of freshly caught trout and cheap wine, the best method of operating a chemical … Continue reading Toilet Humour
We visit friends in Perth on our way up the west Coast and as we are leaving their small poodle races over to the garden on the verge and has a good sniff. “Oh” says our friend “Charlie is checking his pee mail” and as he cocks his leg, “Now he’s sending one”. Continue reading His Inbox is Full
South from Mildura,Vic we take the B200, the Henty Highway which is flanked with bright yellow canola. It only seems like minutes before we reach the hamlet of Hopetoun. For such a small town accommodation choices abound. There is a caravan park and then there is the lake, Lake Lascelles. A small perfectly round lake fringed with sandy beaches and shaded by red gums. We pay $20 for a powered and watered site on the grass fronting the lake. There is an adequate camp kitchen and ablution block. On the eastern shore there is free camping with gold coin donation … Continue reading Lake Lascelles
