Old Teven School Site

For those travelling north up Highway 1 and in need of an overnighter that is away from both the traffic and busy coastal towns then this low cost freedom camp fits the bill. We dropped in while touring the area around Ballina, NSW and the Old Teven school looks like a nice free camp with level sites in the paddock and fire pits. There are no facilities as it is for self contained vehicles but being only a few kilometres off the highway with easy access and being a 72 hour camp it would make a perfect overnight stop.     Continue reading Old Teven School Site

Thoona Pub

Thoona according to the publican is the town that is in the middle of nowhere but close to everywhere and indeed it is, as it is about 30kms from either Benalla or Wangaratta in Victoria. The Thoona pub commands a view of the town of 70 or so people, a general store that opens most mornings and the imposing Mt Meg across the paddocks. Prunus trees are pink with spring blossom, canola fields are golden and a genial publican keeps the fire burning in the bar.
