While we’re on the subject of old schools that are now freedom camps there’s a spacious rest area on the Nullarbor that deserves a mention. Between Ceduna and Nundroo in South Australia you’ll find the Cohen School Site. It’s far enough off the Eyre Highway to give you a good night’s sleep and there is also the ruin of the old school to explore.
The camp site also provides a wake up service in the morning (to ensure that you’re breakfasted and back on the road once the ‘roos have retired for the day)…yes, flocks of happy parrots will dance and chatter on your roof free of charge. Stop your whingeing, it’s called the great outdoors!
