Capricorn Dancers, Day 44 – When is a scallop not a scallop?

Day 44 Friday 9/7/21 Tannum Sands, overcast 21 We have a few drops of rain, but the morning is pleasant. I’m feeling inadequate. As I sit in the camp kitchen chatting with the cleaner and charging the iPad, a woman marches in with a full-sized mixer and starts making a cake. I’m beginning to think that there’s a little bit of one upmanship between the regulars in this park. The cleaner, on the other hand, is a fascinating guy with a passion for Wonthaggi in Victoria and an infinite knowledge of the old underground coal mines there. Following Elle’s advice … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 44 – When is a scallop not a scallop?

Capricorn Dancers, Day 43 – Recycling

Day 43 Thursday 8/7/21 Tannum Sands, sunny 23 Enjoying a coffee from the local cafe, we wave the others off as they go in search of somewhere to stay. With so many families on the road for the school holidays in their new Covid acquired rigs one can no longer roam about the countryside without pre booking. We have a quiet day in the sun then feed the turkeys at sundown. Woody is worried about our batteries as we have a few more cloudy days coming up. We’ve noticed this trip that there are recycling bins for 10 cent return … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 43 – Recycling

Capricorn Dancers, Day 39 – Beautiful one day

Day 39 Sunday 4/7/21 Tannum Sands, sunny 23 The sun is shining. We fling open the windows and the roof hatches, sweep off the rain and mud spatters. The birds are singing and the coughing neighbour’s useless husband is trying to pack up. We’re taking bets on how long he’ll take. We have refreshing walks on the beach. There are dozens of ships offshore waiting their turn to enter Gladstone harbour. We snooze in the sun. And cook pan fried salmon with brown rice salad for dinner. All is right with the world again. Accom: 21.00 Towing Kms: 0 Wild … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 39 – Beautiful one day

Capricorn Dancers, Day 37 – Precipitation

Day 37 Friday 2/7/21 Tannum Sands, more rain 23 This trip we’re learning a lot about precipitation. It starts raining again just after breakfast, thankfully it’s already a pleasant 20 degrees. Driving over to Boyne Island is a much quieter shopping experience than in Bundaberg. If Covid has taught us one thing it’s an appreciation of less crowded places. The rain continues all afternoon and Woody goes for a long walk. Double or Nuthin’ and Shirley Temple ring, (remember they left home on May 27th but turned around and went home to another lockdown) they’re now at Seymour in Victoria … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 37 – Precipitation

Capricorn Dancers, Day 36 – A Quick Getaway

Day 36 Thursday 1/7/21 Woodgate to Tannum Sands, warm 26 Not to be beaten I drag out the shorts again for another try. We have warm sunshine at last and Woody can sit in the sun. I go for a short walk along the beach and thankfully it is short as Woody rings to tell me that we have to be out by 10:00am! It is 10:00, hell is that the date already? We should be on the road. Mind you we’re glad to be leaving this park. It’s untidy, the dump point is faulty, there’s only one clothes dryer … Continue reading Capricorn Dancers, Day 36 – A Quick Getaway

Follow the Sun, Day 18 Tannum Sands

Day 18, 31/7/2019 Wednesday, Tannum Sands, some cloud 25 windy evening We have a lazy relaxing morning, do a little shopping for curry ingredients and Woody cooks a Thai Green Curry while I walk on the beach. At happy hour we are joined by a menagerie of peacocks, turkeys, lorikeets and blue faced honeyeaters. The midges have been slowly eating us to death, bite by tiny bite. Our neighbours are all Victorians escaping the cold and Woody refers to the folks behind us as the ‘Wee Wees’ as they do nothing but read and walk to the toilet, a lot. … Continue reading Follow the Sun, Day 18 Tannum Sands

Follow the Sun, Day 15 – Tannum Sands

Day 15, 28/7/2019 Sunday, Tannum Sands, 24 This place is so relaxing that this morning I jumped out of bed feeling as though I had finally caught up on my sleep. With gusto I dragged the ukulele out from under the bed and instantly botched the F chord. Poor Woody was groaning. You’ve guessed it, the nails are too long. Not only that, I still haven’t coloured my hair since last weeks’ haircut. I had put it off because I didn’t want to get caught with plastic wrap on my head when the fridge repairman called. In hindsight I should … Continue reading Follow the Sun, Day 15 – Tannum Sands
