Day 3, Wednesday 8th Jan 2014 Moonambel – St Arnaud We wake to a warm clear summer morning. The town is tiny, there is a small pub and a general store. We really should have walked to the pub last … Continue reading Walking in their footsteps
Day 2, Tuesday 7th Jan 2014 Mt Franklin – Moonambel We walk up the dirt road to the rim of the crater to see the view. Sadly, it has been blocked out by the trees. But the walk through the pine forest gets our blood pumping and leaves us feeling ready to face the day. All the gadgets on the van worked well overnight making it the most luxurious night of free camping we’ve ever spent. Now the hot shower before breakfast just tops it off. But will I have to put up with Woody’s moans of ecstasy with every … Continue reading A hot shower and a flat

Melbourne, December 2013 After more than 12 months of caravanning we realized that we really (and I must emphasise the ‘really’) liked this caravanning lifestyle. We had begun thinking about how a van with a bathroom would make life easier. A caravan club Xmas muster at Warrnambool proved to be particularly wet and miserable and that was the last straw. It was time to upgrade. The poptop was advertised online and within days we were towing it up to central Victoria to its new home. We still wave to it as we pass that way. Thus, a few weeks later, … Continue reading Time for an upgrade
Day 6, Monday 11th Nov 2013 Marysville – Melbourne The brass monkeys were out last night, it was a double doona night and we needed the heater for a while. We wake to a bright breezy morning. We bid our farewells to Marysville which is now crawling with tradesmen in fluoro shirts rebuilding the town. We have coffee at the Healesville Hotel coffee shop and head for home after a short but memorable trip. Towing Kms: 110Kms Summary 6 Days, 5 nights, 680kms, Fuel $249.65 ($41.61 per day), Accommodation $113.20 ($22.64 per night). Continue reading And down to the coast

Day 4, Saturday 9th Nov 2013 Mansfield – Whitfield We head out of town towards Whitfield and realise that we’re being passed by race cars. Then we notice a sign announcing that the road is now closed for most of the day. Whoops, our little caravan is in the middle of a car race! Quickly we turn the thing around and get the hell out of there. Of course, that means that instead of heading north up through the King Valley we must go first to Benalla then across to Oxley, and south down through the King valley to Whitfield. … Continue reading The King Valley
