Day 34 Wednesday July 9th 2014 Port Douglas
After a lazy breakfast we drive into Cairns and walk along the boardwalk. It is T & C’s last day so we have lunch overlooking the marina at Tha Fish. Grateful that we’re retired we farewell them at the airport as they head back to home, work and winter.
Although the car won’t be ready until Friday we hand the hire car back in. Port Douglas is one of the few places where you don’t really need a car unless you are touring the hinterland. With everything else in close proximity, it is much more pleasant just to stroll around or ride a bike. Our mail has finally arrived from home it has taken a week to get here, wow and Australia Post are planning to slow their service even more.
That smoke cloud looks as if someone’s set off a bomb

I think it’s the sugar mill in Mossman. Sugar mills produce wonderful steam clouds that can be seen for miles.
