Feb 2018, Georgetown, SA
The Georgetown Rest Area is a credit to this small South Australian town. There are level sites, a sparkling new toilet and shower block and a grassy BBQ and kids play area. We had intended to have a farewell dinner with our travelling mates at the nearby pub but when we walk in, the publican who is lolling on the bar watching TV asks “What d’ya want?” The place is grubby and we feel like we are interrupting his David Attenborough documentary. A quick dinner in the van is much more appealing.
Hats off to the kindly folks of Georgetown though for providing a lovely place to stop for the night and the historic General Store is a fascinating glimpse into times gone by.
And don’t forget to put a donation in the box.

Sounds like fun!

The surly publican doesn’t deserve your custom

At least the rest of the townsfolk were delightful.

Not the friendliest guy you’ve met. You were much better off eating in the van. Nicer company for sure.
