Banned on the Run, Day 3 – Moss Vale

Day 3, Saturday 13/6/20 Jugiong to Moss Vale 9 – ? Sunny

We wake to a cool cloudy morning that is much warmer than yesterday. When asked how dinner at the pub went and our neighbour says the meal was ok but “the waiter could’ve taken the silver spoon out of his arse”. I don’t think he has realised that he is camped in some of the richest grazing land in the whole country and yes, silver spoons abound here.

Once more we trundle up the bumpy concrete highway. Our mate S rings to confirm that they’re expecting us tomorrow and that it’s raining heavily up in Port Stephens. We fuel up and stretch our legs at a servo near Marulan and continue on with our rig in the middle of the convoy as our newly replaced left hand van indicator isn’t working.

In the southern Highlands we leave the highway for the busyness of Mittagong only to find that the caravan park is full, the next one too. Damn we’re too close to Sydney.

We stop at a set of traffic lights near a busy shopping centre. On one corner is an elderly couple carrying a goldfish home in a bag, on the other corner is an over muscled young man vigorously scratching his nuts. We decide that he’s probably saying goodbye to them before the steroids shrink them away.

Doubling back through more traffic to Moss Vale Showgrounds we snag a spot that is much more pleasant and quiet even though they are conducting drive through Covid testing under one of the pavilions. Bugger we had our tests before we left home!

We stroll down the street to Aldi for a few groceries while VeeWee watches the footy, yes, footy is back but with no spectators. Wrapped up in warm rugs we have a pleasant happy hour between the vans. There is very little traffic noise.

Accom: $25.00 (power, water, free Covid testing now that is a first, fires allowed, amenities closed due to Covid19). The Moss Vale showgrounds are a better option for us than the local caravan park with plenty of room to stretch out.

Fuel: 0

Travelling Kms : 214Kms

Breakages: Us, LH van indicator. Prado’s, hot water only lukewarm in bathroom, VeeWee, external TV plug needs replacing.

Now that’s a first, free Covid testing at the Moss Vale showgrounds!
