Day 64 Tuesday, 12/7/2016, Hydeaway Bay to Cape Hillsborough, Glorious, 25
The moment that we turn off the highway the scenery becomes magical. Lots of sugar cane of course and cane trains shunting but small farms with backdrops of towering mountains and rocky escarpments and the weather, well it has become steamier.
The Cape Hillsborough Resort Caravan Park is in a rainforest setting between towering outcrops. A perfect location but the park management could do with a bit of a shake up as it needs quite a bit of maintenance. The beach is a wide arc of sand of several kilometres which begs to be explored. The grey sand shimmers with minerals and every inch is patterned with the artwork of sand bubbler crabs. Wedge island at the southern end can be accessed at low tide. The high headlands are forested with hoop pines and pandanus. Woody comes back from doing the washing and casually mentions “There’s a kangaroo outside the laundry.”

Why don’t we have a snooze while we wait for the washing to dry Mabel.
