Day 50 Tuesday 27/6/2023 Somewhere in Qld, warm (no temperature we’ve lost the internet)
Hooray, there’s no smoke and a clear blue sky.
Woody walks into town each morning for both exercise and to use the public toilets. Which doesn’t say much for the drop toilets here.
It’s a pleasantly warm day and perfect for writing outside while listening to the birds and the traffic.
After lunch Woody and Elle nip into town to buy meat for tonight’s dinner and Elle’s visit with friends in Bundy. I sketch the third drop toilet and not wanting to look a bit odd sketching toilets I return to the van to finish it off and have a cuppa. I’m besieged by 4 kookaburras, 5 blue-faced honeyeaters, butcher birds, and a flock of yellow-throated miners. They all go crazy over one slice of bread, then one cheeky kooka perches on the table right in front of me and sits for 5 minutes while we eye each other off. I feel blessed.

Woody lights the fire and our neighbours Kerry & Roy join us for a chat. Of course, we share favourite camping spots but WikiCamps is down for an upgrade and we all feel hamstrung being unable to look up those camps we can’t remember. It’s a gorgeous night and fires are dotted about the camp. Venus shines brightly. I relate the story of sitting on the drop toilet yesterday when two fighting lizards dropped from the ceiling and quick as a flash Roy says ”I’ll bet that frightened the shit outta ya”.
Dinner is lamb steaks and veggies over the fire.
Accom: $32.00

I love the impertinent kookaburra!
