Miriam over at Outanabout.com mentioned the other day that we’ve done a pretty good job at visiting pubs. Well, many years ago on one of our early caravan trips we saw a sign on the side of the road, just above the Cunningham Gap near Warwick, that said “It’s Un Australian to pass the pub and not have a drink”. So we dropped into The Maryvale Crown, and had a beer with them…The Chinese are Sweeter. Since then we’ve done our best to visit a few, though 9:00am and tasting of toothpaste has meant that we’ve had to forgo a few. Anyway, being a tad anal I’ve actually kept a record of the pubs we have visited and the count is now around 300. You can’t say that we haven’t done our bit for the bars of the bush.

Note: These are only the ones we’ve visited by caravan. The many welcoming waterholes of inner Melbourne, namely Richmond, Carlton, Brunswick, Fitzroy…have not been included.
We were a little remiss on our visit to Western Australia and I put a spanner in the works by breaking my ankle in the Northern Territory, causing an abrupt end to a memorable trip.

You have certainly proved you are Australian
