Where Life Really is a Beach

Carrum, Vic, Jan 2024

Situated at the head of Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne is blessed with safe sandy swimming beaches. On the eastern shore, beaches stretch south almost uninterrupted from Port Melbourne to Portsea. That’s a little over 100kms of clear inviting water and hundreds of popular spots. Most families do have their favourites and these are based on shade, ease of parking, takeaway food shops, pet-friendliness etc, etc.

Just 40kms south of the city is Carrum. Barely a hop, skip, and a jump from the railway station you’ll find white powdery sand and cold showers at the Life Saving Club to wash it all off again. Funny how some sand always ends up in the car mats.
