Day 13 Wednesday 15/5/2024 Dimboola to Horsham, sunny
It’s a very, very short drive to Horsham. Checking into the Horsham Riverside Caravan Park 11 minutes before the check in time of 10:00am the lady behind the desk is not happy. Even though the sign on the counter says “Today is a GOOD day”. We’re given a dusty road metal site, Grrr. There are positives. The park as named is beside the river, the bathrooms are clean and attractive, there’s gate access to the Botanic Gardens, the CBD is a few blocks away, and…Aldi is 400 metres from us. All of which we manage to suss out before lunch.

We spend the afternoon walking and walking in the warm autumn sunshine. I visit the Botanic Gardens, naturally, and play hide and seek with a pair of red rumped parrots who seem to know that I don’t have a long lens with me. The Gardens are well worth an amble and I find an unusual cactus. Beyond the gardens there’s another walk towards the river showcasing native plants and grasses. Along the Wimmera River there are 10kms of walking tracks and the river is spanned by the ANZAC Centenary Footbridge.

The picnic and seating areas are a delight and very close to our van so we have happy hour there in the last of the sun before the chill comes down.
Dinner is the soup in the freezer that must be devoured before we get home.
