Tatong Tavern

The little gem called the Tatong Tavern is twenty five minutes south east of Benalla in Victoria. A large bunch of us dropped in for Sunday lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find a cosy and homely pub with plenty of stuffed and hairy heads overlooking the bar and meals of city pub quality. Our band of happy caravanners voted the Calamari the best they’d ever tasted. The new management have only been in residence for three weeks and welcomed our custom.

There is a lawn area out the back which can be used for an overnight stay if you have your van with you. Stringybark Creek Campground (the site of the historic Kelly gang shoot out) is further along the road.

  1. I laughed aloud at “with plenty of stuffed and hairy heads ” because I knew exactly what you meant and your photograph verified my hunch. I’ve eaten in many similarly decorated restaurants in the western United States. And they usually have good food!
