Winter 2014
At Rainbow Beach in Queensland we climb the Carlo Sandblow which is impressive as it rises directly behind the popular beachside town and stepping off point for Fraser Island. The east side of the sandblow drops away steeply to the sea with views to Double Island Point. The west side overlooks the town and Tin Can inlet. It was named after one of his crew by Captain Cook in 1770 as he mapped this coast. As we sit and gawp at the size of this enormous sand dune, hang gliders soar above us.
