Mersey Bluff Lighthouse

Now here’s one for the trivia buffs. The lighthouse (1889) at Mersey Bluff in Devonport, Tas is painted white on the land side, but wander around the cliff to the sea side and she sports magnificent bold red vertical stripes. Should lighthouses be described as female?

  1. I wasn’t taken aback by the words, “she sports magnificent bold red vertical stripes,” so just as good things like automobiles, ships, countries and nature itself are designated female, why not lighthouses? But then there is that appearance thing.
