Moorook is a small town on the manicured banks of the Murray River in South Australia’s Riverland. A short drive from Loxton it costs a mere $10.50 per night to put your feet up here and boy it doesn’t get much better than this. In fact, it is so pleasant that we fall asleep as soon as we’re set up. Whistling kites soar over the river watching and catching the fish that jump, often. Ducks and campers snooze in the sun. Our neighbour from Queensland is hauling in Yellow Belly. There is a general store across the road and a pub that opens from Thursday to Sunday. Damn! It’s Wednesday.
And the town of Moorook? Well it was founded in 1894 by settlers who arrived on the paddle steamer PS Gem. Now that’s a little more pleasant than trudging about the bush on foot.

Looks gorgeous. And very cheap.

They mowed it constantly while we were there. I reckon our $10 only covered their fuel. Worth every cent.
