Cairns Botanic Gardens

A visit to the Cairns Botanic Gardens leaves us walking in circles. Tall palms, broad leaf palms, shady walkways and beds of bromeliads. It is indeed a tropical splendour with flitting butterflies as big as my hand. There’s even a little house for native bees to make honey.

Not to be missed is a boardwalk that leads through a stand of natural rainforest and opens to a tranquil lake system. There are ducks, magpie geese, water lilies and a glorious red Chinese pagoda.
