A visit to the Cairns Botanic Gardens leaves us walking in circles. Tall palms, broad leaf palms, shady walkways and beds of bromeliads. It is indeed a tropical splendour with flitting butterflies as big as my hand. There’s even a little house for native bees to make honey.
Not to be missed is a boardwalk that leads through a stand of natural rainforest and opens to a tranquil lake system. There are ducks, magpie geese, water lilies and a glorious red Chinese pagoda.

Lovely shots. The third is my favourite

Thanks Derrick I only wish I knew the names. It frustrates me when travelling that I’m not able to identify plants from other climate zones. Perhaps it’s time that I invested in a decent phone app.

Looks like a wonderful place to visit especially at this time of year.

I class this as one of the best botanical gardens I have visited

Indeed. I love the great swathe of natural rainforest too. It just puts things into perspective. Have you been to Kings Park in Perth?
