Byfield National Park

Aug 2018

We drive north through picturesque farmlets to Byfield National Park. We were introduced to this lesser known park a few years ago by friends. Today we’re returning to have lunch at the Byfield General Store. But first we visit Water Park Camp Ground. We cross a small ford with a delicate waterfall enhanced by reflections. There are signs warning of the possibility of crocodiles in the area. We find only three camps occupied in this utterly peaceful spot.

At Byfield township the aroma of lunch greets us as we climb the broad wooden steps. We sit on the deck with a drink, a burger and an ‘All Day’ breakfast. Tall gums tower above us, there are palms and the birds of the bush. One could very easily lose an afternoon here and it’s only 40kms back to Yeppoon when we feel the need to return to the world.

  1. I didn’t realize there was a town. We’ve traveled on the Byfield Track though, being very careful, unlike others who knew the track well and confidently shot through water crossings.
