Go West, Day 36 – Gwelup, Perth

Day 36

Saturday 11th April 2015, Showers

Gwelup, Perth

We take a short drive into Perth and find the city surprisingly quiet. We are in the city to buy a new camera as my trusty old Nikon DSLR snapped its last down in Albany. It had been flashing up all manner of error messages since Kalgoorlie and totally disgraced itself in the Super Pit. I really can’t complain as it was 9 years old. The new one (another Nikon) will take a bit of getting used to though.

We join C & C for lunch at Cicerillo’s fish market in Fremantle and have a wander about the harbour. As we pass Bon Scott’s statue C tells me that she once knew him and he would have been amused at being immortalised with a statue. The weather alternates between heavy rain and bright sunshine as we follow the Swan River upstream and drool at the houses and the views over the river. Fremantle is such an interesting city, there’s always a street begging to be explored or an old historic limestone building that you wish you knew the history of. If only those walls could talk.

In the evening we take the Canning Highway back into the city so that we can see the city lights but the city is hiding in a blanket of thick grey cloud. We’ll just have to watch the footy instead.
