It’s a long way to the top, Days 96 – 99 Seeing Sawtell Region

Day 96 – 99 Monday Sep 8th – Thursday 11th 2014 Sawtell

We have four delightful days. The weather is warm and the evenings mild. The sun rises very early but it is worthwhile walking on the beach. The view from the lookout encompasses the surf beach to the north, the Bonville Creek mouth to the south and a charming old sea pool in the rocks. Each morning the local croquet players play in the park beside us. We have coffee at the surf club on the beach and find a great coffee roaster in Coffs Harbour called Artisti.

We visit the Bonville Golf Club which is modelled on Augusta. It is rated as one of Australia’s prettiest and the undulating fairways are flanked by tall gums, pink and white azaleas and clumps of grass trees. Sitting on the clubhouse veranda the course looks more like a movie image than the real thing. I guess that’s what you call picture perfect.

Double or Nuthin’ and Shirley Temple arrive. We buy fish from the co-op at Coffs and BBQ it for dinner on the deck. We visit beautiful Bellingen in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and have a delicious lunch at the charming old Federal Hotel.

2021 Note: This was our second visit to the Federal Hotel in Bellingen. Now it seems that whenever we are in the area we drop in. I’ve lost count of the meals we’ve had there but every one has been excellent and the charming old pub always looks freshly painted and well loved.
