It’s a long way to the top, Day 100 – How good are your sausages?

Day 100 Friday 12th Sept 2014 Sawtell to Crescent Head

Woody the Elder and The Very Good Golfer head home to the Gold Coast and we make our way south to South West Rocks with Double or Nuthin’ and Shirley. The Macleay Valley is a cow’s paradise, the wide river flats of lush green grass and tall birds wading in small soaks. There are little hamlets with names like Rainbow’s End and Rainbow Reach and the perfectly wondrous Jerseyville where two storey weatherboard houses cling to the riverbanks.

We buy meat from the award-winning local butcher who happens to be NSW’s best for snags and rissoles. Freezers restocked we visit nearby Arakoon and the Trial Bay Gaol at the southern end of the beach before wandering along the river flats to Crescent Head.

2021 Note: We now realise that nearly every butcher in this fair country proudly advertises that he has an award-winning sausage.
