Like a Rollingstone, Day 80 – Binnowee Bush Camp

Day 80 Thursday, 28/7/2016, Yeppoon to Bundaberg, 23 degrees

After having our dining table ripped from the caravan wall by potholes on the flood damaged Bruce Highway a few weeks ago, with every bump in the road now we think “table!”

After stocking up the grog cupboard at Bundaberg Distillery we give up trying to find a vacancy in a caravan park in and around Bundaberg.

By a quirk of Wikicamps fate we find a little farmstay called Binnowee Bush Camp just north of town and as we drive in looking like rabbits caught in the headlights, host Gilda welcomes us with open arms at the farm gate and leads us down the back paddock in her old blue Suzuki. Beside a lake and a stand of melaleuca there is a large grassy space. Big enough for eight self-contained vans and with fire pits dotted around one could shut out the world here, but there is a three day limit, Gilda likes meeting new people. We light the fire, roast a rack of lamb with Gilda’s sweet potatoes and eat by the fire as the birds settle in the trees.
