Day 75 Monday 9/8/21 Mulambin, warm 25
While a neighbour chatters incessantly about the joys of owning a Jeep, the emu strolls up and grabs a slice of bread off the table. “Did you see that?” the neighbour says. I’m just glad to have a break in the less than enthralling Jeep conversation.
With VeeWee and Nic on board we wander off to Rockhampton to do a bit of shopping. Some shopping indeed, we totally exhaust ourselves.
Regional Victoria opens up. Byron Bay and Tamworth go into lockdown. Borders are up and down like a bride’s nightie.

Day 76 Tuesday 10/8/21 Mulambin, wet (41mm) 21 degrees
We wake to a wet morning and a bedraggled blue faced honeyeater whistling on the guy ropes for breakfast.
An emu has pooped on our lawn and if you don’t know what that looks like…well we were wondering how a cow had managed to get into the park.
Rain falls all morning and the idea of a cosy read soon wanes. When The Prado’s suggest a drive into Yeppoon we’re off, though we get soaked to the skin just running from the car into the café. Sparrows are bypassing the Covid QR Code check in and sneaking inside for warmth and muffin crumbs. By the time we’ve warmed up with coffee and a light lunch my jeans are still damp.
MV and Silicon arrive in our park and have to set up in the rain. Before we know it the rain has stopped and a strong breeze dries everything out in time for a noisy happy hour.
We cook beef ribs in the air fryer, another winner.

Hope you enjoyed your beef ribs. We’re trying pork ribs tonight.

We have a little ditty that ends with “I thank the Lord that cows don’t fly”. It seems that could apply to emus.
