Yackety Yack, Day 9 – A perfect view

Day 9 Wednesday 17/5/2023 Grenfell, sunny 4 – 16

Woody went off early for a blood test but the rest of us weren’t going to peek out from under the covers until the sun had warmed things up. Woody returns with a coffee from a nearby cafe. It’s good, so late morning we girls return to Spannerman Automotive & Espresso just around the corner for another.

Back at the park and sitting in the sun we wait for what seems like forever for our half-thawed prawn pies to heat in the oven. Mrs Have a Chat goes off to wash her hair, while VeeWee and I walk the streets. I grab a bench and settle in to sketch the old Union Bank, a grand old building designed by architect William Wardell who also designed St. Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney and Government House in Melbourne. But of course, a car parks in front of my line of vision, the bane of Urban Sketching. I can always finish it off later.

VeeWee’s friend Vee had suggested we visit the art gallery, so in we march, and we’re entranced by a quilt created by the community which takes up a whole wall. The quilt is called the “Grenfell Community Curtain” and depicts the town, its flora and fauna.

Vee rocks up with a bottle of bubbles and we enjoy the warmth of the partially closed in BBQ area.

Dinner is a pork stir fry.

Accom: $5.00

  1. One of the hazards of urban sketching is having something block your view or having a person move. All part of the adventure. I would rather be the one sketching than the one getting the blood test though.
