Yackety Yack, Day 26 – Bubbles and a Top Barista

Day 26, Saturday 3/6/2023 Inverell, 8 – 20, feels warmer

Woody walks, finds more clothes to wash and shops, while I snore. It’s a warm sunny morning and although we are near a road bridge there was no traffic noise last night. We all have an easy morning catching up on chores and enjoying the sunshine. VeeWee wants the ducks trained to not poop on the walkway path. Good luck with that one. The pathway follows the river into the heart of town.

Woody walks around town while we girls take the car on a tour. Once again, we’ve forgotten that a) it’s Saturday and b) it’s a country town and people have better things to do than open their shops when the only people around are 3 old ducks snapping photos. Thus, shopping is out but admiring the beautiful buildings and kicking up autumn leaves is definitely in. We stumble upon a welcoming bar/cafe (The Union) with a cheery young woman in charge. She boasts that her barista skills are tops and she is right. It’s pleasant sitting outside in the warm sun with bubbles, because that’s what warm days are meant for.

The town has a large shopping precinct and seems bigger and busier than its population of 12,000 suggests.

Back at camp while having happy hour in the sun, park manager Sharon invites us over to their fire pit. We join hubby Michael and another couple who are living on the road and currently working in the park. Sharon gives us an insight into the life of a caravan park manager. They took over 5 months ago and in the first week someone drove into the tow bar of a moveable cabin (riverside parks usually have moveable cabins in case of flood) and knocked it off its blocks. The occupiers were enjoying the hospitality of the local bowls club (Bowlo) so when they returned the cabin was repositioned with a forklift. Of course, there was a problem with the plumbing, the toilet had popped off its pipes. The occupants were happy to use the park bathrooms with the heated floors and towel rails. The second week of their management the river flooded and the park was evacuated.

Dinner is steamed dumplings.

Inverell, its people and its surrounding area has captivated us and would be well worth another visit and some exploration.

Accom: $35.00
