Yackety Yack, Day 53 – Gin Gin

Day 53 Friday 30/6/2023 Childers to Gin Gin, cool 8 – 20

The cane trains ran all night, crossing the road just down from us. Thankfully they were little more than background ambience.

It’s a chilly breezy morning with bright sunshine. VeeWee breaks one of the plastic shelves on her fridge door. She dashes to the hardware store behind us for some instant glue which does the job in minutes.

We have an interminably slow coffee in the colourful garden of Insane Coffee, surrounded by lawnmowers, baths, sewing machines, even a blowtorch. Coffee finished and it’s time to bid safe travels to VeeWee and Nic as they’re turning west to Biggenden for a few days before going home.

We’re off to Gin Gin through farms of macadamias, sugar, Duboisia, and mangoes. And the sign says “North Queensland, welcome to the 7th state”.

The Gin Gin Showgrounds aren’t madly busy and because we’re staying more than one night, we’re given a site backing onto the fence.

Woody grabs beef stroganoff pies from the bakery and after lunch we wander around town, it’s busy with locals and caravanners who are lured by the large parking bays in the centre of the Main Street.

Dinner is those saveloys that we bought in Childers yesterday.
