Yackety Yack, Day 57 – Bats!

Day 57 Tuesday 4/7/2023 Miriam Vale, Qld, humid misty showers 16 – 22

It rained during the night but not heavily. We heard maybe 5 trains, but they were more of an interest, than annoying and whizzed by quickly. We get a text from Elle…”BATS!”. She hates bats (flying foxes, fruit bats, or whatever you wish to call them) with a passion, and there is a colony in a tree close to her motor home. It didn’t help that the people beside her were in a whizz-bang (camper van with a sliding door) and they were up and down all night…whizz…bang, …whizz…bang!

Several rigs left early this morning and as the rain is persisting we move to the edge of the car park beside the railway line to spend another day here, wow we’ve got grass and we’re further from the bats. We’re killing time now as we aren’t due into Yeppoon until the 10th.

The rain and humidity alternate so we pop over the road for a coffee. Woody walks to the cemetery and gets drenched.

We start an early happy hour over at the pub, where there are 3 vans parked in the side yard. When the rain stops, we continue our drinks on the grass beside the vans until the rain sends us in once more.

Dinner is prawn burgers with hoi sin sauce…oh, yum.

We can save power tonight as we’re now parked under a bright orange streetlight. Bugger, should have noticed that.

Accom: $0.00

*Note: For those unfamiliar with Queensland pubs, the beer taps are attached directly to the cool room wall.

    1. Thanks so much for your kind offer Margaret, but you sent us rats with the first fleet. Then there was the amorous pair of rabbits that forced us to build a fence across the continent. We feel like the poor woman who received a partridge in a pear tree and ended up with a menagerie!
